Hi again,

On my panel w202 (1998) there is a button drawing a car on it and writing rest inside the car figure. When pressing the button, there is a flow of steam to the windshield... What is the purpose of the button? Thanks for any hint...

It takes the residual heat from the engine into the cab when stopped.

Will it assist in cooling down the engine in traffic jams? (when the car is running)

It enables you to sit in the car in comfort whilst waiting for the management
The fan is set at 1 and temperature still works, although the AC is off.

No when the car is running the switch becomes air recirculation (or it does in mine). Unles you have some engine cooling problems you should never need in this country to have to put the heating on to cool the engine.

I thought it was to turn of AC and just use heat rather than heat and AC which clears windows etc, it is on my dial for fan speed for heater ???
There is nothing in the manual about it but this is what i assumed!!

and puts the red light ON to tell you it's OFF just to thoroughly confuse matters!

The other one as above - recirculate air inside the cabin when the engine is running and 'rest' or residual heater when the engine is off. The rest confuses people as, to my knowledge, MB are the only people to do this.
It works by firing up a small electric pump to keep the coolant circulating round the engine block and the heater matrix. Heaters without this feature, go cold within a few mins. This will keep running far longer, though I belive it switches itself off after 15 mins or so, or if the battery voltage drops below a certain level to avoid flattening it.
All very clever stuff really.

About 30 minutes according to the manual. If you have to wait longer than that there is something wrong.

Mr Evil,

Surely you should have realised by now that you shouldnt mention your time on the dark side :)

So which were you in the past; a pimp or a drugs dealer?

Mark.

Right this button says AC off and rest and lights up red so to me that means in the warmer weather use this to turn AC off and save fuel!!!
Am I right or wrong
The one next to it is the recirculation for those wee country roads up here!!!
Oh I love the smell of silage in the morning

In warmer weather I would use the AC to stay cool, isnt that what its for. Perhaps on a cold day you may be tempted to turn it off and save fuel!

On the other hand I didnt buy an MB to save fuel :)

The point with Air con/climate on an average day,The compressor only runs intermitantly, and not all the time. OK you may have it on auto, but the compressor clutch only comes in with a differencial of 2 degrees, so on a day like today 25 degrees, the compressor will only run for something like 20 secs in every minute, hardly expensive to run, it would cost you more to wash your clothes after the trip. I use mine with the top down on a hot day.

It turns the AC on and off with the engine running and works as the 'rest' button with the engine off. A multi-tasking button :D.

ha ha, it was a poor mans Lexus at the time, had been driving a company IS200 and was changing jobs... wish I had spent the extra couple of grand now! Saying that, after the "Customer Service" I received from Lexus recently, Maybe it was a good move... :)

Back on track...

When the Engine is running, then the button on mine turns the AC off / on. The "REST" function can only be used when the engine is off and this is when it uses the residual heat of the engine to keep the car warm (On minimum fan). ie. it's a dual function switch.
