Retro fit a Satnav ?

Hi all,
I am soon to be the proud owner of a 2003 C270 saloon..
I have seen on the internet "Command" units for sale.. Is it just a simple case of fit and plug the wires in?
Does the ECU have to be recoded in order for the car to "see" the new satnav unit?
I ask this because I had a VW SatNav retro fitted and the cars ECU had to be recoded in order for the Nav instructions to be displayed on the HiLine display between the instruments..
Has anyone done this upgrade ? If so are there any important points I need to know about before I splash out on a Command Unit?

Sorry for 101 questions but I would like to get this right first time..

Where do you start, its not plug and play, you need the wiring, the aerial, speed signals from the ESP, loads of coding changes, Thats just what comes to mind! im sure theres more!

The Audi/VW Upgrade is a lot easier and cheaper than the Merc to do, you might be better off doing what i did and fitting an aftermarket doudle din unit that does it all(dvd,nav,hands free,cd,ipod and radio for around £1000). That included the steering wheel adaptor. Looks good, sounds good to.

I would certainly be interested in contacting him with my details..
On the subject of the SatNav system... How do the Audio qualities compare to the standard unit that would be fitted to a 2003 C270 ?
