I reckon the dampers on my car are original & well past their best. Since I'm going to have to spend of the old hard earned I wondered if self levelling was a viable retro fit
Expensive - you'll need the pump (which on many cars is a combined power steering / self-levelling pump), reservoir, pipework, legs, helper springs, height corrector, spheres and all the mounts & etc
It does ride well, though, and given the choice I'd take the hydraulics over ordinary shocks
Thanks for that sounds like the cost is a bit too much given the age/value of the car and the other work it needs to bring it up to scratch.
Although the ride is ok, on broken or undualting surfaces there is a bit too much vertical movement so I'll investigate a damper upgrade as an alternative & would be interested to hear peoples views on this
Sorry for the delay in response I've been a bit busy so have been looking at the forum in very short sessions. The car is a saloon. All the examples I've driven have had a fair few miles on them and so were not at their taughtest. The main reason I bough this one was that it was by far the lowest mileage example within the allocated budget.
My own view is that, given the nature of the beast, the spring rates are probably about right although I wouldn't rule out stiffer or progressive rate springing depending on cost. There's no doubt in my mind that tighter (or even adjustable) damping would be advantageous. So I was wondering if any one had any experience or ideas re upgrades.
