Hi everyone, just replaced the engine on my tired c180 esprite 1995 manual box, had 180,000 on her, with a second hand 88,000 engine. Every thing went well and she started fine but on a run she will not rev past 4000 rpm Any ideas Thanks, Paul

If the engine came from an Auto car the fuel pump relay will be the wrong one

Hi Malcolm, no the engine came from a manual car, came with flywheel e.t.c, using all the new engines parts except starter motor and alternator and throttle body.

If it drives fine and revs over 4,000rpm, and only won,t rev over 4,000rpm when in neutral then your car is fine, it has a built in rev limiter of 4,000rpm when in neutral. Though i thought yours would be to early for this feature, and i also thought it was only on auto's.

i had it years back with my 86 300te spot on 4k it would stutter as if hiting the rev limiter.then on the way home from work it died on me & i used a bit of wire to bridge the fuel pump relay as it was the fault but when i drove it home it ran better than ever so new relay & it was fixed
