Hello all,

I have just joined and this is my first post.

I have a 2013 (63 reg) E220 diesel automatic.

Unfortunately, I cannot see anything online in regards to my issue, hence my post.

I have an issue which makes my car unable to shift up until it hits 3,000 rpm or I manually shift up, and it doesn't let me manually shift up until 2,100-2,200 RPM either.

This only occurs after I've been on a motorway, even if it's just for 1 junction.

If I'm just going on the normal roads it is fine, but as soon as I go onto a motorway and then come off it won't shift up until 3,000 RPM.

The engine light has come on.

I am looking to take it to a local MB specialist very soon however I would like to get some opinions first, and if it's happend to anyone else?

I will keep coming online to see any replies however I will be busy Saturday and may be slow to reply, but all replies will be very much appreciated and I will reply back at some point on the weekend.

Thanks for reading.

Kind regards,

Oliver :)

The engine is in limp and so reduced power, resulting in the gearbox being slow to change. Cure the engine light and the box will be back to normal.

The engine light has gone off and all is back to normal, however I have yet to use it again on the motorway so not sure if the issue would come back when I go back on the motorway

As above, just because it’s gone away presently does not mean the underlying fault has gone with it. Generic OBD diagnostic equipment isn’t the way forward, go to a Mercedes specialist ( independent) with Star and get the stored codes read, diagnosed and sorted, then no future drama. You may have to use the motorway one day...

UPDATE**

Apologies for a very late update on what this silly issue could be.

I am late to reply due to my local MB specialist have me wait until today (from tests done last week) to then retest and look at other possible ways this issue has came about.

Firstly, they replaced the EGR pressure sensor, which makes sense due to the fact that it's in line with EGR components which could flair up an issue like this.

However, the EGR pressure sensor has not been the issue as 2 hours after I drove my car out, I was back there because the problem had came back.

They have admitted it is an intermittent issue, as it only pops up after about 1 hour of proper drive time.

I have just got off the phone with them and they have told me they have checked all pressure sensors, and even the back exhaust pressure sensor (which is what was coming up on scans).

They have checked wiring and may have found a possible wire issue in relation to this.

I will give another update this afternoon when they are finished with their road tests.

What a pain in the ass this issue has been, and I hopefully will be done with it this afternoon.

Also if anyone does have this issue and comes across this thread they will have a good idea of where to look to resolve it, as I've had the MB specialists scratching their heads.

Cheers,

Oliver.

Replacing the EGR valve makes no sense if they didnt fix the issue or is that what they told you.

Seems they reading things off a code reader and not able to infer the cause of the fault by proper diagnosis, did they test the EGR pressure sensor.

Anyway good luck and hope you are happy motoring soon

Yes they replaced the EGR pressure sensor and a wire connecting it. All seems fine now, they test drove it for 20+ mins. I then took it out on the road for over 1 hour, and seems back to normal.

Happy it is back to normal.
Did they give you the part number of the EGR pressure sensor by any chance?
