I'm experiencing issues with my MERCEDES-BENZ CLA 180 Coupe (C117) since last summer. Following an interim service, an engine problem arose, indicated by fluctuations in the engine temperature gauge and longer heating times. Additionally, the car occasionally takes a bit longer to start, and during idle, there's a slight jerking sensation and more noticeable exhaust fumes. Despite replacing the thermostat, the problem persists, with the engine light reappearing shortly after. A recent diagnostic at a Mercedes garage eventually revealed a “rich fuel mixture” fault and a misfiring cylinder 4 (they initially couldn’t replicate the issue I was seeing daily so I had to show them it). The Mercedes mechanic suggested replacing the spark plugs could be a cheap first step solution considering they haven’t been changed in 30k miles or so.

He also checked the time chain and timings and they are fine.

The spark plugs were subsequently replaced during a full service by another mechanic and a compression test was performed which came back fine.

However, the problem remains unresolved, and the Mercedes technician recommended changing the seals on the manifold as a last possible solution he could offer at the time since they weren’t replaced during the thermostat change. I'm uncertain about which parts are necessary for my car and if there are other potential issues to address simultaneously. Any advice on resolving this issue would be appreciated.
