Needed 4 tyres last week and weighed up all the pros and cons and purchased Khumo ecsta 31s for the sum of £280. I do around 30k a year so I'm not expecting them to last that long. However, for 4 x 225 50 R16s it seemed very reasonable. So far they seem quieter than the old Dunlops and seemed to grip ok last night in the wet. I'll let you know how I get on.

Have been using exactly the same sized Kumho on wife's BMW for a few year's now. Doesn't last forever, but nor does any tyre on her car (so I've found).

I've only ever heard good things about khumo and don't be surprised if they last just as long as your previous 'brand'. With tyres, cheaper rarely means worse (unless you go really cheap) and unless your surname is Hamilton, it's doubtful you'd really be able to tell the difference.

Wife has them on the A class and I agree a great tyre at the price, tend to wear a little quickly on the front but that could be the way my wife drives!!!!!!

Am now running as she is stood behind me.............

As Jberks used to say tyres that wear alittle quicker often maen that you have better tyres on the car for longer, and as said nothing wrong with Kumho

Hi Jib
you were right, one of the Dunlops on the front had gone "egg shaped" hence the vibration. See you soon !

I've been using Kumhos for the last 5 years. On my current 'C' the original Contis lasted 15K miles on the rear. I replaced these with Kumho KU19's and these lasted 12K miles however they were only 60% of what it would have cost for replacement Contis.

Having spoken to the guys at Kumho in the UK they suggested I try the KU31's. These have now done over 12K on the rear and I reckon I could possibly acheive 18K+ with them. As an ex-saloon car racer I rate both the KU19 and KU31s as excellent tyres. The KU31 is directional and the KU19 assymetric. I now have KU31s all round. For normal driving in the wet and dry it's impossible to notice any degradation in performance compared to the Contis. On a race track you might possibly notice the difference.

First set of tyres on my old c180 were Contis, at first change , changed to Pirelli P6000, £15 cheaper per tyre, much quieter and better in wet, gave 30,000 /year and invariably were not down to marks (close).Last change was to Lassa (Bridgestone second string) even cheaper and guess what, every bit as good.

I think the only think wrong with Kumhos is the way you can pronounce it...;)
