Road noise on E230 W124

I have an E320 Estate M reg. I notice road noise particularly when compared to a modern car. It is particularly loud when going over potholes and rough tarmac. It's fine on m'ways and smooth roads. Is there anything that needs replacing to make road noise quieter?

What wheels / tyres are fitted?

On front I have Pilot Primacy 195/65R/15
On rear I have Michelin same size.

There isn't roar coming from the tyres as such, but more of the road
noise which is being transmitted through the tyres. Could it be dampers
or suspension mounts that are wearing out. I am not techie so am groping in the dark. Any help would be much appreciated.
