Hi,

I'm trying to change the rocker cover gasket on my C250TD, but am having some trouble working out how to disconnect the small pipes either side of the injector pipe. Does anybody know how to disconnect/ connect these? The Haynes manual is as clear as mud!

Thanks

Not very familiar with the modern merc diesels but my old diesels had a leak-off rubber pipe connected to each side of each injector. These rubber pipes were just pushed on over a nipple on the injector. I often had to pull very hard to remove them.

Not sure what yours looks like.

just a note!!
i think you are meaning leak off pipes (soft pipes). if so make sure you order a new length before you start the job as they usually snap of at the nipple meanin they are to short to reconnect!

Thanks for the advice regarding buying new pipe I was scared that something was going to break when I tried to pull one of them. As it happens I couldn't do much with it becuase one of the injector pipes is nearly worn through and I'm scared that slackening it will break it. For some reason most of the clips holding the injectors pipes along the rocker cover are broken. I hope it's an age thing (the plastic getting brittle) and that Stealer didn't leave it like that when they changed the gasket 2 years ago. Parts are on order so I'll give it a go this weekend.

I think i remember reading about clips going hard before. Its a design fault but, IIRC, merc refuse to believe that its a prob. Even though they all fail at very low milage.

Where did you get the rocker cover gasket from? I've just got my hands on an 1998 R plate silver C250TD (it's pure magic) and I noticed that it is perished a wee bit with some oil leaking.
