Hi, i have just got a 300SL/R129, 1991 and the roof was a problem, turned out to be a microswitch and some tlc with oil spray, a fully charged battery, and whoopee, it worked .
Next problem is the rollover bar, it makes a click, but won't lift. I have tried pulling it up while the wife pushes the switch, I have tried holding the switch for ten seconds, then 30 seconds with no luck. I have tried raising it whilst driving. Has anyone else had this happen, and how did you fix it ?

Thanks in advance, Steve

Similar. Got mine this summer, 300SL r129 1990. After I got a better battery the soft top and all worked, it was the first time I saw the top, black. I bought it without trying it. But I accidentally knocked off the switch for the rollover bar and now it only goes up and down with the top. I put the switch back on and it seems to be fitted ok. Any ideas anyone?

I guess you know to have the parking brake on and key in position two.

I have managed to fix the drivers seat not tipping, it was just the cables not being same length. But the seat still will not move electrically although I think all the relays under the seat are ok, no sign of water damage (car was used in Spain). I reckon it is the switch on the door. For a non memory switch they are very expensive! I need to be more certain therefore. I took out the switch and as I moved it various parts of the seat will move, so I think the motors in the seat are ok. One thing I found was that the twine or horsehair in the seat back had got caught in the headrest mechanism and was all curled up around it causing problems. I think this might be a common issue, and it is easy to catch and remedy. Taking out the seat back while it was stuck fully to the rear was hell by the way.

If it won't go up, that is strange because it usually goes up with the soft top, or mine does anyway. I suppose you could try rolling the car. Joke by the way. I cannot make mine go down by the switch, but it goes down and back up when the mechanism works.
