Hi,

In the centre roof console unit there is a small fan unit on the RHS.

Can anyone tell me what this is for. The one in my C Class vibrates and causes an really annoying hum all the time. Just wondering what it does and the consequences of disconnecting it.

Thanks

Hi

I think what you refer to is the temperature sensor for the cabin (thermostat), i imagine you could disconnect the fan and the sensor would work less effectively. Or price a new one. Disconnecting the whole lot would muck up you heating/cooling system.

Hi,

Its quite easy to strip & clean the motor bearings in this unit, but it does need the 2 connections to the motor unsoldered to get the back off the motor. near the fan there is a tiny bead thermistor, (temp. sensor). Watch you dont damage it, as they are usually delicate. It took me ages to find out what the noise was as I wasnt expecting it to come from up there!
