roof locked on

hi i have got a 500sl on a 92(j) and my hard top has locked on the roll bar switch is lit up as with the roof button. cheers, ant

Hi and welcome,,have you tried to re set the roll bar, by holding the switch for 20 seconds for it to engage

Yes,,try the roll bar one, then lower the windows right down, and the rollbar and try

I hadn't realised that you have to operate the roof release within 30 seconds of switching the ignition on. I thought I had the same problem as you when the roof would not release.

Did the reset things as Malcolm describes and it made no difference. Switched everything off in disgust and then had one last try and it all worked.

Then I read the driver's handbook. Doh.
