just had my car serviced and i was having running problems anyway it wont run without the maf plug disconnected, just wondering if this was a problem anyone else has had. it does drive with it plugged in but very hesitant with flat spots with it unplugged it pulls like a train. was wondering if it could be the lambda sensor that is knackered or maf?? or both???

It does sound more MAF related to me.

There are 2 types of sensor, the open wire and encapsulated, they must not be submerged and they do not always respond to cleaning, nothing lost though as it does work sometimes

leave it to dry would be the best if it is the wire, the encapsulated could be carefully wiped

no probs will try cleaning it in the morning, will it damage anything running it without it being plugged in?

Nope, all that happens is that the engine ECU cannot adjust to the air temperature, etc

Sounds like a new MAF sensor is in order to me, i would spray it well and leave to dry naturally on a paper towel for a good time and clean the air intake and box while your at it.

possible, the LAMBDA does control the emissions and the fuel/air ratio, as in the case of contaminated fuel, the engine runs lean and this could cause flat spots, as can the MAF. As I said before cleaning is no guarantee of a cure.

Short of a diagnosis read out out there is no way of telling short of replacing.

fuel contamination??? im gonna replace the lambda sensor first as its cheaper than the maf. if that doesnt work will have to change the maf.

I would really say it's the MAF , as if it runs fine without it plugged in, then it really could be faulty. Sometimes cleaning won't work, it could just be past repair.
