Last weekend when I started my 2002 W203 c180 est, it ran v roughly for 20 minutes before returning to normal - 1st time ever this has happened. Although, always from cold start the engine sounds louder than it should and outside the car smells a little bit of fuel. Although running and starting have returned to normal the engine warning light has been on all week. I have driven about 400 miles and the light has stayed on. Fuel consumption appears to be normal. Is it the MAF?

Grateful for any advice.

I do not think it is the MAF as this does not turn on the engine lamp but the O2 sensor will and this could upset the running as the mixture has changed

After a further 2 weeks of perfect running, I got the fault code read. There had been a fault in cylinder 4. Think this might have been some dirt or something on the plug or in the fuel. I feel reassured by this. Should I be?
