folks.

What is the correct RPM on starting cold on a 1998 w210 eclass 320 petrol?

mine seems to be 1300 for about a minute,, then it returns to normal (850)

no problems to report though just wondering if that's normal?

No its not. It should be the same all the time, irrespective of temperature.
Something to do with the cold start system but I don't know it well enough.

Sorry to say but you have that wrong - it IS temperature related, and the revs slow down as the engine gets up to temperature.

My E320 does exactly the same but settles down to 700-800 rpm within a few seconds - i regard this as normal as it happens summer and winter

Re-reading, there's truth in both statements. Yes, re-thinking about it, I was off beam and the revs do sit high for a few seconds, but 5-10, not 60.
I can't remember my 210 doing it though it might have done, the 211 doesn't, but the C220 certainly did.
