most likely culprit, or a water valve electronically controlled but stuck or staying open . check top hose from cold eng ,if only slowly warms up ,look stat, should stay fairly cool then get hot pretty quick when stat fully opens.

Me -2019 GLC 350 coupe AMG line. Mrs- ford kuga 65 plate awd powershift .
My c250 takes an age to get to 90 when coasting at 60 mph. If i drive it italian style it rises pretty quickly.

My E250 takes exactly 11 minutes to get up to temp you can set your watch by it. BUT....... On the motorway it does drop ever so slightly usually around 83 fro 87 ish.

How old is your E350. Merc stats are not the best of a certain era. On my W220 (2004) the stat failed after 8 years, the temp stayed on 50-60, even on the motorway but struggeles to climb in urban driving clearly not right (stat sticking).
Took it to the dealers when warm, he took two mins to say stat.
If your car is near 15 years old, then you might as well change all the coolant now, with stat out its the best time to properly flush the system.
With all the modern gubbinns on cars now we only realise stat failure by keeping an eye on the temp.
A colder running engine will affect your fuel consumption.
Let us know how you get on!!

Notice your in Notts, like me. Mercserve on Radford road!
