T212 facelift, 2013. A few toys including pan roof, 19" rims, Harmon Kardon, nappa, privacy glass.
I had an idiot plough his motorbike into the rear of my 2001 W210 estate. Insured through direct line and booked by them to take the vehicle to "Mr Under the Arches Cheap 'n Cheerful". Suggested to Directline this would invalidate my 30 year goodwill warranty and they agreed subject to inspection I could use a Merc approved bodyshop...this is where the story really starts.

The Merc bodyshop guy asked me about any rust issues as the accident damaged tailgate had telltale rust around the lock. He then called over his warranty man who took the car into the garage for 1/2 hour to give it a good look over.

The result was corrosion to the inner face of both front wings, rear arches just starting to bubble (literally three matchhead sized) and both offside doors and nsfront door under the rubbers. He did a full paint check and aside from the rear qtr which appears to have had repair at some stage of her life aok.

Bottom line is that he is issuing his report to Milton Keynes today with photos with the recommendation of sorting all of the above under the warranty. he is rushing through a decision as i made it clear that if I give him the repair work I want it all done at the same time, he thinks he will get a response in 10-14 days. (The bodyshop repair is £2,400 estimated).

If MB HQ approve this I will be a very happy bunny and very impressed with the Stealer -accepting they want/need the work, but to me he did more than he needed to.

Will keep you posted re HQ response, hopefully with positive news. Thought I would share some positive stories as there are a lot of tales of woe on this forum (no I don't work for Merc PR before anyone asks)

Quick to moan...quick to praise. :-D

SL/1999/500
Mid Feb took my March 1999 SL500 for a warranty check as rust bubbles showing on rear n/s wing corner above tail lamps and next to boot lid. Dealer rang back to confirm a repair date of May. 2 days ago dealer rang to say work had to be done before 8th birthday as Merc. were changing their policy on the 30 years?. Now booked in next Friday.

Anyone know what the real situation re. the 30 years is?

Dealership Update...

had a phone call from the dealership to confirm I will be the proud owner of two new front wings, three doors and one rear arch - all courtesy of MB. The criteria was that the paintwork was original finish, FMSH and under 8 years old. When I questioned the why, I was advised if you meet these criteria any corrosion warranty work is almost a guarantee. It becomes a different matter post 8 years- again according to the warranty man at Mercs, because the remedial work is no longer under a warranty/scope of contract but becomes a goodwill service. I don't know how much of this is 100%, but am reporting the words from the man at Merc.

All in all very happy with the dealership who volunteered this work (unheard of) and to get a decision from Merc Milton Keynes in less than 3 days is pretty impressive.

If you live in Kent and are looking for a good and honest dealership Merc's Mercedes is my strong recomendation.

Car to be booked in in the next 14 days, again will provide an update on quality of work.

Dealers not stealers

Mine is back again - 2nd respray under MB war' on the CLK.

(Other repairs incl. fuel senders, brakes (servo + electronics - having the girl side ways was fun!), blocked drain -> water ingress and new blower, new side windows.)

The latest thing was the crank shaft sensor - but luckily with a full MB service Hx Mobilo Life (0800800644) came out, plugged in the diagnostics and repaired it in the car park. A good service even for older merc's. I was by 4 other CLK's at the time. (Seem pop' in Portsmouth - the one in front was a nice Kleeman conversion). Unfortunately, 3 of 4 had rust on the arches.....this reminded me of the old capri - nice shape but rusty arches. I get the feeling that MB are starting to accept the paint work problems on the CLK's and are accepting claims for repray. The one thing that Merc do well is track all repairs on their vehicles and think their development is good because of this - the Mobilo Life team new the life Hx of my car and all parts bought, installed and repaired on it.

Warranty Rust Repair

Received my car after two weeks in the Merc's body shop. Three new doors, two front wings and one rear arch and one tailgate/bumper (the tailgate/bumper insurance job). Cos t to be £nil all under warranty obviously except tailgate which is courtesy of Directline who insure the scroat who ploughed into the back of her.

A1 job she looks lovely. Downside is that the bonnet whilst only having 5/6 small stone chips looks sad in comparison. Will need to buffer this last panel.

Excellent service from Mercedes Dartford and now have a 07 looking 2001 W210 LOL:D :p :)

good to hear merc taking their responsibilities seriously. if they'd have done this for me i would have more than a 92 320CE in my fleet of vehicles.
Maybe a few more stories like this and I'll buy a cl.
At the moment I've still got free services from Merc, but can't bring myself to use them, the last free service nearly cost me £720!!
Good luck, hope they've done a good job.

Mercedes-Benz Dartford
Burnham Road

Tel. +44 1322 294414
Fax +44 1322 294466

Bob is the warranty man (he tells me he has a full time job) and quite frankly he could not have been more helpful.

Even if it is not down the road I would give them a call and then make the journey. Not sure if I advised in previous posting I only had the vehicle registered in my name <3 months prior to them approving the work which knocks out the excuse of "you must have owned for at least 6 months Cur".

Good luck.
