My paperwork says 30 years I have had some repairs done by MB already but for some reason there is a mention of 8 years on here. I have recurring rust, the car has a full MB history and is a year 2000. I read of a requirement for history but MB have not when I have the car serviced ever knowingly checked for rust or to my knowledge have any procedures in place to do so. I have always had to make the running.
Before I go through the ropes with them (again) has any one any up to date 1st hand experience of the current position.

Yes I had a telephone call today from MB UK to say my 2001 S class 320 CDI regisered 08/02/ 2001 was out of warranty (8yrs) and that they wouldnt be doing any rust repairs to the car or even considering any contribution towards repairing the rust, front wings and rear wheelarches..
So it looks like my bucket of rust will have to be exchanged for a proper car, Audi A8, or even a BMW 730d..The other car that I was looking at was the Lexus L600 hybrid, tho at an £86K price list I cant quite bring myself to spend that amount of money on a car.
I find it incredible that a car like an S class merc should be rusting away at 8yrs old.
I had intended possibly changing this year to the new model s class, but hey once bitten twice shy..

Interesting thanks for the reply I have been given Counsel's opinion on this and the very unambiguos comment was "I have read your documentation you have 30 years cover" my further questioning on goodwill servicing etc, was met with a blank stare and "what more do you need" and have you got legal expenses insurance if so instruct .......... and we will run it, we might even be interested in a no win no fee plus win bonus arrangement it was not an opinion I solicited but it appears a mutual friend has a similar problem we then got on with our dinner.

I most certainly will be having a look thru my paperwork and any other I can get my hands on relating to this 30 yr rust warranty, maybe it means you are guaranteed to have rust on your car within that 30 yr spread..
The really galling thing about it is we have ten cars, and my merc..which should be the pride of the fleet..is an absolute mess.. and the worst looking car in the yard..up close that is..

The word that most exercises the armchair lawyers is "inside" which means to my mind, the inner or enclosed surface of something.
Some have suggested it may mean from one side to another ie rusting through, I can find no form of words in my documentation that expresses or even implies that stipulation, and your car would be in a holy mess before that took place. Neglecting it till that stage would inevitably lead to more extensive and expensive repairs, we shall see what the consensus of opinion is!
