Mercedes are dithering about whether to treat the rust on the pillar that has caused the windscreeen to crack. Any help or advice

how old is the car? I have an 03 C240 that has rust on the windscreen piller. It looks like it has been caused by a stone chip but it's quite noticable.

This is actually on my boss's car. The rust has developed under the windscreen and as it grew, it basically snapped the windscreen in half. There's a foot long horizontal crack in the screen exactly halfway up the right hand pillar. Lokks like MB might be willing to take the hit.

sounds like it should be covered by the rust warantee (30 years if serviced at a merc dealer).

I came close to buying a Alfa GT brand new but didn;t because of their reputation for breaking down and rusting, so I bought a Merc instead. It's really sad when Alfa's are better built than Mercs!

Would Alfa cover the same rust issues as MB have ? I doubt it. As per previous threads MB are standing by their commitments.

Plus, from what I can see they've learned their lesson and on the current models, they ain't going to rust. Mine has aluminium boot, bonnet and front wings so no problem there and I have had an unfortunate but interesting opportunity to view the paint thickness on the rear wheelarches (goes into the bodyshop tonight!) and can report that of 4 deep, heavy gouges, only one managed to reach metal. Compared to my 210, which wasn't remotely as bad as some make out, its a vast improvement.

My Swedish mag came this morning and there are reports of the new E class from 2002 are rusting under the rear window, it can be seen when you open the boot.

What happened, did one of the Transits finally get you?

No - got quite adept at avoiding them, though they keep trying!

The Mrs introduced it to the garage door frame. To be fair, it's a tight dog leg angle and you have to swing across until the front corner is very close to the side of the jeep before swinging the wheel over. I've come close when I've got complacent. Anyway, the parking sensor went off and she followed it's advice - crunch!.

All perfect and gleaming again now though.
