I have a 1974 mercedes. There is some rust under the wheel arches. As colour does not matter what should i use on this after i have removed the rust.
Thanks
Not an expert at treating rust but I would use a rust inhibitor after cleaning off rust, should be available at some motor factors. If you cant see it I would then follow up with hammerite. This is really only a temporary cure for slowing down the rust.
Regards
Mike
I can't say I am a expert of rust treatment, but I have to kill the rust in my old vauxhall like every few month in different place of the car! Now the car scrap already!
Wheel arch area is very difficult to cure, as water and mud always trap under it.
Rust is a very big problem, if you not removing them totally, eventually it will come out again. What I normally do, is to sand it down until I see the bare metal, then make sure the surface is free from oil, dirt and water, then apply a few layer of either some Anti Rust Primer or Zine paint onto the surface, then spray it as usual.
Afterward, apply some under body seal, which is some black thick oily thing, which will dry and seal out water getting into the surface, but don't apply too much, as it will come off!
When you do your wheel arch, please check whether the area nearby have any rust, expecially underneath and inside the boot, you might find some of them as well.
