This question is a little wide open, with rust as a guide,if you sand the metal and it comes up bright silver, thats ok is the rust is on top. If you sand and you have a black mark surounded by the bright silver, then its a waste of time as that shows that the rust is comming through from the back side, and any new paint would not last 10 mins, nothing can be done other than to remove the offending metal and weld in new. This also has problems as it will soon rust away around the weld if the replacement metal is to local to the rusted panel.

What I am trying to say is be careful that you do not waste your money.
Do ask for a guarantee if you have it done.

Thats exactly the thing mate, theres small patches and areas i would like sorted.

Like the two wings have rust around the arches. Ill just get new arches no worries. Then theres the little bit of rust right on the edge of the sunroof- And little spots here and there. Like the rear of the boot lip, and beside the inner door seals etc.

Not that much in all, but want to get sorted to try and preserve / better the condition of her.

The main problem is finding a good recommended place which wont charge an arm and a leg for it.

You sound like your describing my car!

My W124 Coupe needs a new front wing, attention to the front edge of the sunroof and a little more at the rear wing.

Which parts of London have you been searching?

Been searching most areas mate, but really want to find someone recommended.

Found a couple, and would you believe both of them have recently shut up shop- They were both really good too by the examples i had seen.

Im in two mindes, if i should go for the replica wings, or originals. The originals will come to around £500, wheres the replicas are £150.

But i havent seen what the replicas look like, or their quality.

It's the usual six of one, half a dozen of the other. The pattern wings will be a lot cheaper to buy, but from what I've read, are likely to need some adjustment to fit properly i.e., take longer = more labour hours. Original wings, more expensive, but bolt straight on, minimal fuss.

No idea about the actual quality of the materials though...

I think someone offered TM Motors out in West Molesey before, as a recommendation.

For what mate, reals or replicas?

C955 means replicas, these do take a little more time, you could fit them your self, that would save a lot of money, paint the insides first. Its a matter of taking out the lights, thats the hardest bit, then give to the body shop to paint, then re fit the lights and trim your self.

rust repair

A quick appraisal can be easily performed. Personally I like the screwdriver approach. if I can punch the driver through the panel without the panel starting to bend or dent then the panel will need replacing/or cutting and welding. Every rust patch is unique and will need to be judged individually. i spent six months learning panel repair as a hobby which I found very fulfilling. You need to find an expert, and one you can trust.
A bad repair job can do more damage than good.
If you are looking for possible rust or bad repairs a fridge magnet will tell you if there is thick filler or fibreglass under the paint. slapping a panel with your palm can often dislodge a shower of rust dust and flakes from inaccasable areas. Panels usually rust where dirt collects, holding moisture that is constantly trying to get into any tiny hole in the protective coatings. around wheel arches, in the corners of doors, where panels are fenustrated behind plastic trim (bottoms of doors and sides on the merc).
I hope that is some help.
Good luck
