Is Mercedes warranty for rust invalid if you have just bought the car second hand.
The reason I am asking is the car that my mate bought last week, the 2000 slk230k had the usual rust spots on the rear wheel arches and the bootlid lock.
Tha car has full merc history.
He took it to the dealer yesterday and was told it is not covered as he has just bought the car with the rust on it.
Is the warranty not with the car no matter who has bought it.
Is the dealer just trying to get out of the work for free; have quoted £2.5K to repair the rust!!!
Any replies would be appreciated!

I believe the car has to be owned for 6 months before a warranty claim can be accepted as regards to bodywork.

Had mine for 2 months before the warranty work (small amount) was OK'd by MB.
They did not ask how long I had owned it.

I have just had the work done on my CLk430 - excellent job the main dealer did.

They require that you are the registered owner and have been for a while, my dealer also photocopied my service history. They reason for them wanting you to have owned the car for serveral months is to stop people buying cars on the cheap with the rust and then getting M-B to pay for it. They only want to sort if for people who have had the ruse problemt develop whilst in their ownership.

Get him to reg the car and live with it for 6/7 months and then take it to a different main dealer and get it fixed for free

I had rust on mine and got it resolved.

Mine is C250 TD reg 04/1998. Took it to dealer who advised Merc provide 4 year warranty on cars, when I pressed this further with surprise he advised that provided I have FSH then a goodwill gesture for an additional 4 years could be available, covering 8 years in total.
Took car to recommended bodyshop who sent details to Merc ie service history, log and the work was done. Cost would have been £2-3000.
Last service history was done by an Independent Merc specialist when I took ownership, prior was full dealer.
