Forget it, what you don't see is underneath. The replacement parts are not cheap. I had it for 13 years. Never buy any car from ebay because you can't test drive it.

That car is a very bad one and only good for spares I think, the rust in the doors is consistent with standing for long periods.

I agree with Mercedes 190E strange wording for a car in that state

Being sold from a sea side town and advertised/photgraphed on the beach too - has the salty air just accelerated the whole process? As has been said, what is the underneath, the chassis and hidden crevices like?

In the past week or so i've discounted many many cars that were light years better than this.

Sea air almost as corrosive as sea water

Hi All

I agree with Top Cat, it wasn't smart to photograph the car on a beach near salt water. It makes you wonder if trips to the seaside for the Merc' was a frequent occurrence.

I live close to the seaside and sea air can be almost as corrosive as sea water. You do need to look after a car if you live close to the sea, even a Merc'.

WRT the ebay advert, this vehicle has extensive unseen rust I suspect.

i see what he means only a few rust spots it should read more spots than an acne ridden mcdonalds eating teenager and i also imagine he has just painted over the rust underneath with tar that he scrounged off the local council

More scabs that you can shake a DA at - even the 'rust spots' have rust.
This will presumably be why it never made its reserve ..........

Who told you that ebay cars cannot be test driven?

I agree with the salt water/air theory, Looks like it's had to many drives along that beach. As for buying off ebay, I've just bought my 2nd car of there and always test drive them before i buy. You dont have to view the car before the auction ends if it's too far away, If it dont match the description you dont have to buy it. Here's mine i got last week

Hi arrows180

Looks like a real bargain. Are you happy with your purchase? Have you discovered any problems with it, for example, rust?

Hi Phil.. I'm really pleased with the car. No nasty surprise's and no rust bubbles anywhere, Have'nt had a decent look underneath but it passed it's mot on the 7th Oct, so should be ok, the only advisory note referred to a ball joint. All 4 corners have scrapes that need touching up and a couple of small dings to knock out. (last owner was female) Interior carpet has a few staines i'll try and clean up. Thats about it. It drives really nice, it's been serviced every 12 months from new and i've got all the bills for any parts that have been replaced. Got all the old mot's and they match the service dates so looks like a straight one with genuine 69k on the clock. There are some good deals to be had on ebay, it's just a case of finding them amid all the iffy one's. atb. Brian.

That looks like a gem of a find given that it came from ebay, well done arrows.

I spotted this which seems highly worthy of someone's money, looks like it has been properly looked after and has great provenance (had I not been dead set to purchase an estate I'd have snapped this up):

Looked at that one myself, would make a very nice winter hack, wonder if anyone else has noticed the tax doesn't run out until April 3009. Think of that, no more car tax to buy for 1,001 years! lol.
