Is there anything one can do to prevent the unsightly rusting of brake discs. The swept area is kept clean by the action of the brakes but the rest of the disc is soon discoloured by rust. I assume that most paints or oils would burn off with the heat generated when the brakes are used. These brakes are ventilated ones.

Yo can get high temperature resistant spray paints that can be used on manifolds/exhausts. One of these may be suitable, they sell it in Halfords.

Rusty brake discs

Hi

Don't get painting anything, especially brake discs.
You have a choice.

Usually its the rear brake discs that rust. If you don't do a lot of miles then thats what happens. I have found however that the cheaper discs as sold by  ECP and others don't have the same problem. Also if you use cheap brake pads they will cause the problem. So use genuine pads none genuine rear discs and try that.

PS. I don't like non genuine stuff on the front. Usually get customers complaining of brake viabration.
