Sorry Brian, I have the same system as yours and never experienced this problem.

What happens when it loses the location. ie what message comes up on the screen?

Which disc are you using?

Will it track you without putting in a destination, to try this:

While on the initial nav screen, click on INFO at the bottom left, then click on LOCATION MAP and the map that comes up that will track as you move.

Let us know,

Good luck!

I get no msg's on the screen also I have tried that it does not track me all the time when I am travelling I disappear off the screen  I am using the latest disc when I bought the car it had the old original disc in so I sent for a new one £114 from Holland (Navtec I think but the people who supplied the first disc) It is really starting to wind me up :mad:I just want it to work properly. I am wondering if it needs an overall or replacing.Does anyone do an overall on these locally to Nottinghamshire?
SORRY THIS IS THE NEW DISC I BOUGHT

How do you reset it?

Dirty disc lens? Try cleaning.

Faulty arieal? Check connections.

Brian, if its showing 00 sat then your GPS aerial must be the problem, you should get 8 sats in a good location in the UK. Is it a retrofit COMAND or standard installation when new?

Hang on for a bit Brian ,before you spend any money uneccessarily.

Can you confirm you have set your position correctly, at a road junction? If you are not receiving any sats, that is your problem, and cleaning anything wont help. If its a new aerial you need it only costs £15 for a diy antenna and can be easily installed.
I can put you in touch with someone if you need help, but dont give up till you get more replies here.

Glad you got sorted Brian, Mitesh is far more knowledgeable than MB, and only 30 miles away, lucky you.
The new antenna should do the trick.

:D

Brian, meant to say, most folks put the new aerial inside the car which won't give you as good reception.
The place to put it (like mine) is in the bonnet plastic grille, next to the windscreen washers. From the back of COMAND route it under steering wheel, through the offside fusebox, out the split rubber grommet end of the fusebox, undo the grille clip and one screw, slip it up inside. You now have totally unrestricted satellite reception {8} . The antenna is 100% waterproof, Guaranteed.
This location is neat, tidy, and tried and tested. :D

Chas,
Went over to see Mitesh @ 4pm yesterday and I now have a system that is showing sats and working properly and I saved MONEY. Local Mercedes Dealer Quote for new one £181+ Vat + Fitting. Mitesh £120 supplied and fitted(internal) Great guy as well. Ran his computer through the car as well and gave it a clean bill of health. Thanks Chas you should recomend him to more people he is certainly the dogs danglies lol

I have a 2001 S320, so I suspect the same version of Comand.

I think the Sat Nav is ok, but not as useful as a Tom Tom. My best experience to date is to take a work friend home, less than 10 miles from my house. When I told Comand to take me home it confidently reported that a route was not available from my current location. After about a mile it suddenly knew where it was and gave me the route. this journey was across south mancheter, not Alaska!

does the TMC work? I havent got that on the current CD.

Mark.

And yes TMC works but it does tune your radio to Classic FM in order to pick up the signals.

I had understood that the feed was via Classic FM, but are you saying that you ONLY get TMC if you are listening to classic FM?
