Hi all, my first time in forum so if I am in the wrong arena just tell me off !
I have a 1996 S320 L ( W140 ), and have been told by MB that a new remote key will cost £102.00 + V.A.T. any alternatives ? Please not the bent coat hanger joke !
Secondly I have an electrical fault which causes my oil pressure gauge to stay at zero, but have been told I need to replace the whole console at £ 500.00 plus !
Mileage is at 82K, and I love the car, even at 22mpg,
all comments most welcome,
Jim

I can't be certain but the price for the key sounds a tad high. I suspect thats full retail and there are discounts to be had. Ring round a few dealers and see what you can find. If you can get a second hand one on ebay etc, it should be simple to program the remote to the car and the 'key' part is held on by a roll pin so shouldn't be too difficult to swap over.

Assuming the faulty dash diagnosis is correct, get the serial number for the cluster and contact Mercman in Southampton. He quoted me around £200 for a replacement unit for the E. (though with a duff clock, I felt that for £200 I could look at my watch!) He may have a key too!

whats up with the remote key at the moment? i take it you dont have the second one..

fuel gauges were problematic from day 1 - mine is very sporadic at very low fuel levels (just when you really need to know how much you have left)

22mpg? i get that from a 4.2 V8.. :p
