I wonder if anyone can help me. My boss has just bought a 2000 S320 that has Command Centre. The mobile phone with the car is a Nokia 3110 which obviously he doesn't want to use. He has a 6210 that he would like to fit in the car but still use the functionality of the Command Centre. Is it possible to just have the phone holder changed - he is getting some conflicting advice from MB

Thanks in advance

He needs to buy/upgrade a phone from MB, or hack the bios of his current phone ;)

Hmm , if the car has a 3110 its not a factory fit . The factory only fit the 6*** models of telephones. whether it be the 6090 or the 6110 or the 6210. If its an aftermarket install , then the brain and the cradle need to be changed for the telephone. everything else should be ok.

Now , the other problem you may hit is getting the telephone to work with the numbers next to the screen and the button on the steering wheel.

I have been told this is possible , but very costly.£1000+ as some major integration has to be done.

Thanks for the input guys.

Thats interesting Jason about the phone not being factory fit - I was quite surprised to see such an old phone in a 2000 car. The installation currently is under the centre console armrest and is a cradle that the complete phone rests in on its back (i.e. not just the bottom of the phone clips in). I find this design quite bewildering as it means that each change of phone requires a change of holder. This is quite unlike the current nokia car kit offerings that the bottom of the phone just clips into so the same kit does later generations of phone( i.e. 6110,7110,6210 etc).

The 3110 is currently controllable from the Command Centre - so looks like big bucks to get this working with a 6210 then. Thats a pain because even using a multi-sim Voda connection the 3110 is only single band so wont take advantage of the 1800Mhz sites in use by them hence reducing coverage.

That puts a diferent slant on things if the current 3110 is going through the command.....

See a very good auto electician who specialised in custom stuff and has a proven record with benzes.

Hi
The 3110 *did* come in all MB's , and was integrated into COMAND. It changed in June 2000 to the 6150, and then again more recently to the 6210.

The 3110 was GSM900 only, the latter GSM900/GSM1800.

MB have a document on how-to upgrade the system to a 6210. It requires
(1) A new controller
(2) A new handset-cradle and mount
(3) A filter (electrical)
(4) If you want GSM1800 (orange/1-2-1), a "compensator" and some extra wiring to be made.

The 6150 handset holder converts to a 6210 holder with a special clip - so if you have a 6150 system, upgrading it needs the clip and parts (1) and (3)

If you look on Ebay, theres various auctions which include the (1) (2) and (3) parts - look at auctions located in Germany and mail the seller to ask if they will ship to UK, they all will - you have to do a bank transfer to Germany when paying for things, in general german auctions dont take credit cards, and it is the norm there for you to pay various charges

Cheers,
Richard
