I am attempting to convert from cradle (Nokia 6230i) to bluetooth. I have bought the MB bluetooth device. I would like a change of 'phone and wondered if the full list (may only be 4) is known, my dealer says
"Nokia 6230i and,8800 plus any siemens phone"
The Nokia 8800 would be OK but as it is fairly expensive I would at least like to know if it is approved and likely to work. All help appreciated

I believe this has come up before.
Basically, as I understand it, there is a SIM/Bluetooth standard that the phone must be at, in order for it to work, called the Sim Access Profile, so no not all bluetooth phones will work, but many are compatible.
MB will only list the ones they've tested and it isn't their highest priotity so there will be many off the list that work just fine too.
I'd go down to one of the local carphone warehouse shops, park outside and try a few phones. The salesman should be happy to pop a few batteries in, put in your sim card and give them a go if the spec sheet looks right, but basically anything with "Sim Access profile" should work, at least in theory.

You could always use a spare sim in the car as I believe the bluetooth unit has a sim slot built in... so you dont need a phone etc. etc.

Otherwise, as said - any phone compatible with the SAP - Sim Access Profile should be ok. I fail to see how the older nokias 6230i/6230 could be compatible (with s40 firmware) whereas the newer ones - N80 etc.
(with s60) wont be...

Thank you for the help. The Nokia 6230i works perfectly but a Motorola razr will not connect. I also wonder, that if I wish to connect a second 'phone (say another 6230i) if the initial set up proceedure has to be repeated each time a different 'phone is used, or whether the phones will just connect automatically with no intervention, as in other more 'friendly' systems. (The settings on the 'phones would be for automatic connection) There seems to be a certain lack of knowledge at the supplying dealership regarding bluetooth technology.

Was told by Kevin at MB Doncaster that it pairs 4 phones but works down the list progressively - if it does not find the 1st one it looks for the second one you paired. If it can't find that either it looks for the 3rd and so on.
