Not with the overtemp warning on the dash. It nerds to go on xentry, potentially internal fault with the fan controller.
Ok thanks...I forgot about the warning on the display....

Can you explain xentry?
it's mb dealer level diagnostics. Your handheld unit can only talk to the engine ecu. Xentry will talk to all 30+ control modules and evaluate the lot as one.

Gerry, do you not have a proper Mercedes Dealer near to you (Not just some local knowledgable guy with a scanner)?

I have a 2016 S350d too, and it is now perfect (after getting new wheels from the MB dealer where I bought it)

I have had quite a few S Classes now and this is my first 222, bought from a main dealer and with 12 months warranty like with a brand new car. Keep the car serviced at MB and you get mobilo which is another benefit of using main dealers...

I would get it to a proper main dealer (or at the bare minimum, a proper independent who has access to xentry and online coding etc)

Thanks Barry,
The local guy is a proper independent operator who has all that software. I understand what you say about the main dealer etc. I have always left any cars I have had into the main dealer for service and repair to protect any warranty and to have a full service history to show when I am selling on.
But for some reason this time I am very hesitant to leave it with the nearest MB service agent..I am an engineer and have a reasonable understanding of cars and these guys have not a clue and do not instil confidence.
The local independent guy is taking the car on Thursday so fingers crossed. From speaking to him I have more confidence in him than the MB agent. I'll keep you posted and good to hear from someone with a similar car.
I'll be back to you in any case with a few questions about other small issues I am having....:)

.... One main reason I never use it is ther is an awful sickening smell of dirty socks when it turned on. The dealer has failed to sort it.
This means that the so called cabin filter (aka pollen filter) needs changing. Go for the latest charcoal activated ones.

On the last service in July 2020, the MB dealer cahenged all cabin filters. It made no differece. It appears this is a common problem with A/C systems with bacteria growing in the evaporator due to the warm air condensing on it...maybe those activated charcoal filters with filter out the smell? Are they expensive? easy to fit?

Gerry,

when I got my S Class, the previous owner must have had someone in the car who smoked... it was only a feint odour, but as a non-smoker I could smell it..

I bought one of the odour eliminators and some of the leather cleaner from these guys...

https://airvidox.com/?gclid=CjwKCAi...YUVWPueyljd-2BzR1IRJCdrX_k1-gZrRoCM9UQAvD_BwE

Worked a treat and removed all the smells in the car...
Thanks Barry,

I used an 'STP' can. You set the air con on and the fan at full blasts and turn on the can. It sprays for 10 min. It leaves a nice smell for 1 day and then the rotten smell is back. It simply does not do 'what is says on the tin'!.
The a/c evaporator has bacteria in it. Its not easy to get at but a local service guy told me there is a can available that has a long tube attached and you can get right down to the evaporator by pushing the tube into the vents...must try is sometime..

Gerry, the stuff I used really does work... 6 months now and no smells... you leave it overnight!

Make sure you follow the instructions to the letter... and if this doesn't work, check under the floorboards for a dead body ;)

I left the car into the local guy. he could not find the problem. He thinks it could be the fan/fan contrioller (I don't think so as my understanding is that it is a passive PWM controller and not on the comms bus?). Anyway he has a contact in the main MB dealership in Dublin (Annesley..he tells me they are finding it difficult to get mechanics) but will contact him to get the car inspected and if it is an expensive fix there may be the possibility of some 'goodwil' from MB regarding any fix cost.
