Here's one for you brakes experts: the brake pedal requires quite a shove to get it moving (imagine pushing open a really heavy door; it is fine once it starts to move), and then is fine. The brakes then work normally - I haven't crashed into anything yet. This is a new problem that has suddenly occurred.
Any ideas ? ('S' for stationwagen,of course).

The brake master cylinder I would say, unless the servo is sticking

...unless, of course, the idiot driving the car has not realised that the garage has moved his seat back by one click and he is wearing a much thinner-soled pair of shoes than he usually does. Duh ! Thanks anyway for the advice. I will now crawl ito my hole for the rest of the day, felling really stupid.

You must not feel like that,, its amazing how much difference it makes, on a long run I might move the seat back, and that does make it harder to stop
