Evening

I have a nice shiny new number plate to fit to the back end of my car. Which is nice.....

Do I have to do some kind of major dismantling job? Thing is, I can get the screws out but there's evidently more to it....am I looking at dismantling more of the bootlid? There seem to be spacers involved or something.

I have looked for the exploded diagram/russian site thing on here, but I'll be damned if I can find the blighter...

Thanks in advance.

Number plates are often held by 3 double sided sticky pads,if there are no more screws,it should pull off. why not get the free MB holders, better than screws, if you would like a photo, i can put one up.

Malcolm, if you could put a pic up I'd be grateful. I know what you mean about the pads - I've stuck the front plate with no problem.
However I've had a minor tug of the rear plate with bolts removed and it seems pretty solid to me. Will investigate further, but if you could pop the pics up of this holder I'd be v grateful.

Thanks

Alex

These holder are given to the dealers free of charge, they fit the fixing holes on the car and are held with M6 screws, once on the car the front can be opened if you want to change the number plate at any time.
One nice feature is the these holders stop moisture getting between the laminations on the plates.

All I've ever done is to undo the 4 phillips screws, remove the old plate, drill the new one and refit....
The trim sounds good if it stops moisture getting in though.

As usual my dealer (Norwich) only supply them with a brand new vehicle. Not prepared to give them away even though they service the vehicle.

I'm off to MB Plymouth on Friday morning to collect a new fog light lens and my front number plate holder has split so I'm going to try my luck for a freebie.

Let's face it we don't get much for free out of em!

Yep, can get the screws out but plate doesn't shift. No, really. Just a bit reluctant to use brute force, which appears to be what's required My indy was burbling about spacers and stuff being involved.

As TV says the number plate holders are brilliant. I fitted one to the back of my estate and thankfully have avoided using the sticky pads which are pretty hopeless at the back. Worth persevering and finding one if poss and even paying for it, it really smartens the rear end up.

In fact looking at TV's pics I think I will source one for the front as well.

MB Plymouth gave me two FOC last Friday.

By the way, if you want rid of the MB dealership advertising on them, paint thinners shift it easily. Ungrateful bugger really, aren't I?

FREE !!! Did you get Hannah to ask for you? My local garage charged me about £15 for them. Mind you , they look a lot better than having the screws sticking out. Only down side is that if you go from the screw-fix ones to the stick on ones you need to get new plates too (without holes in!)

I've only done the rear one so far. I assume the front is probably more expensive as there is more of it
