I own an E220 cdi estate (2004).Lately I have problems with my rear left shock absorber. The car has a self leveling system which seems to work fine. The problem is that the rear left suspension has gone too soft and the car is going like a boat.
The car has the usual springs and shock absorbers at the front. But at the back it has a thing like a black capsule.
Does anybody know if this thing has a shock absorber inside that i can change? If not what would be the price for a new one?Does Bilstein makes anything like this.

Mine went at about 75k.....its self levelling. The parts ran to about €900. seems they are not durable either so now at 126k am expecing them to again need replacing.

Its a airbag which acts as a spring.

It need someone familiar with the system to look at it closely.

It will be either the airbag or the shocker absorber.

I was about to ask same about my 230E Estate just brought!
I drove back to London from Oxford and felt like I had done one too many Noddy impersonations on the way home! Not to mention the sea sickeness!
Does anyone know if the 1988 - 1998 vintage of estates all had same airbag style shock suspension system? If its going to cost loads is it cheaper for me to scrap the car? Also are secondhand bits worth a look?

rear bouncy suspension

I read back a bit on this forum and the general pattern of comments seem to suggest bouncy rear end is the spheres or leaking pipes or a knackered pump, anyone got a concrete diagnosis, as there are lots of maybes here???
