I am hoping someone here can offer some help. I have an extremely temperamental S211 E500, which we love (well my wife loves and I currently tolerate). I wanted a V8 as a last hurrah before we are doomed to drive milk floats, and was advised a S211 E500 because the engine and gearbox are very durable and reliable, and because only an E class estate is big enough (well a Volvo 240 would have been better in that regard, but they're daft money).

It has been beset with issues after picking it up - most of which we have cured, and some of which we have not. It has a seemingly capacity for developing new faults - it has done exactly that today. I have set aside money for service, rectification, and maintenance both usual and extraordinary, but it's finding new ways of eating through that!

Suspension playing up - usually, but not exclusively, the front raising itself to its highest level, leading to an uncomfortable ride quality. It has been reset by the local specialist twice (using Star), but soon starts playing up again. The suspension does change height, and the raise car button by the gearshift will raise the back when the front is at its maximum. Voltages are apparently fine, and there are also no leaks, apparently. My little OBD fault reader iCarsoft MB v2.0 recalls no error codes. A diagnostic techie friend has suggested there is a valve at the back of the compressor which may be stuck and which could result in this problem as the air isn't being evacuated correctly. The compressor is also fairly noisy so I'm guessing changing that wouldn't be the worst idea in the world.

I apologise for the dissertation, but I am hoping someone might have some suggestions that I can put to the specialist when I book it in next, or indeed the names of specialists who you'd recommend. as bookings are extremely hard to come by, and I need the car (I do have a Campervan I can use for a short while), I'd like as many opinions and recommendations for them to investigate rather than leave it with them and hope, time is money and time doing work is probably more profitable than time spent investigating. If I can help them narrow it down they can send more time fixing,

Thanks in advance!

Simon

Sometimes corroded electrical terminals can cause problems and the scanners won't pick up any faults.

I have done - I'm in Cornwall but can travel.
The only one I can think of is Steve at Avantgarde Mercedes , Clevedon near Bristol .
Another member may know a closer one ?

There's someone in Poole that @AMGeed uses from memory if that's any more convenient but Steve @ Avantgarde is a good shout.

Maybe a trek but Wilding Motors in Paignton, personally I would save telling the garage what component could be wrong, often best for them to run thier diags and find the problem based on thier experience.

Thanks guys. I had a phone call back from the other specialist (as my usual one isn't able to do anything until February) and dropped in to see them, As soon as I arrived the car was plugged in and some preliminary diagnosis run, which didn't reveal any error codes, but luckily the car was in stilts mode so he has witnessed it. It's booked in on Monday for proper diagnosis. I'm half tempted to tell him "bugger the cost, sort it out".
