Hi everyone. Newbie here, now the proud owner of a 'project' S211 E280 CDI Sport 2007. Lovely car, great colour (Flint grey). Bought cheap as it needs a few bits and pieces tidying up, so that's why I'm classing it as a project. The aim isn't perfection, more like getting it looking like a 3-4 year old daily driver. With a bit of spannering and TLC this should be doable with my limited skill level. I've done a couple of thousand miles since I bought it, and I totally love it. Very surprised at its ability to rust though!

Welcome buddy , I’ve pretty much got the same car in E320cdi form which I’ve had for 11 years and 100k now . I’ve attempted all the servicing and anything that’s gone wrong for the last 6 years now .

Thanks Wighty, good to know there are people here who've been there and done that. The biggest issue I have with mine at the moment is rust in the rear arches and rust also coming through on the tailgate where the rear wiper seal was obviously leaking for ages. Once I've sorted these and got those lovely 18s refurbed it'll look pretty good for its age. The front end's also getting a bit clunky too. But hopefully all stuff I can do myself with a bit of patience.

What mileage are you on now Jeff ?
For parts , Lemforder for suspension arms/balljoints is the one to go for if you don’t buy MB , try Autodoc via the app for good pricing if you aren't in a hurry , or give MB Grangemouth a ring ,they give a forum discount and deliver for a few quid .
Update your user details with your location , it makes it easier for other members to recommend a nearby MB specialist.
Consider buying an icarsoft MB2 for fault code reading (it’s saved me hundreds of £)

Welcome Jeff. I recently bought a 2005 E220 estate with the intention of it being a cheap run about for a few years too.
I didn't intend it to be a project but so far I've had to change the front springs, rear brakes, thermostat, wing mirror and a speaker. Still that has only come to £200 so far.

Thanks for all this. Yes I've been looking at an icarsoft. Mileage is 138k with decent service history. So far I've been tidying up annoying bits of trim and put a new glow plug relay on last week that I got from SPR for about £90 cheaper than the main dealer. Now starts first time and doesn't leave the street in a fog of black smoke....

Good stuff, always satisfying to do it yourself and you shouldn't need to do those things again.

Maybe of interest.
I bought my 211 and 2 speakers were shot.
Using the existing frames I cut out the old speakers and fitted 4 Bose CH6CK, there was a little soldering required.

They fit well and as did the originals and sound good.

Hello and welcome

I bought an S211, wasn't supposed to be a project car in the photos, in the flesh dents and scratches on every panel  It has tried to bankrupt me ever since.....and I haven't even touched the body work! But I love the car. :D
