Strange things happening to the tailgate on my E350 estate.
It started when the load cover wouldn’t lower when the tailgate was closed - it’s still doing that. Using the remote key to try to open the tailgate often doesn’t work: the nearside tries to lift and makes strange noises but the offside stays firmly shut. Opening it manually works but produces more strange noises and a series of three ‘beeps’ from somewhere.
It seems to close OK but after about 100 meters of driving a red icon appears on the dashboard saying it’s not shut. Also, the switch in the driver’s door has a red light, which is now permanently on. It seems as though actuator switches somewhere connected to the offside tailgate hinge are not tripping.
All this was intermittent and it worked about half the time - now it seems permanent.
Can any kind member give me a ‘heads up’ on this and any idea on how to fix it?
