Have been thinking about giving the E class an updated look, and replacing the OE 172 rims with some 18" ones, probably either AMG, Brabus or the Sport ones.

But I am just a little worried that it may wreck the ride. Has anyone else done this and found any issues, obviously tyres play a big role in it.
Currently mine all have great P7's so they are pretty quiet, and ride well.

I know many must already be running 18's so wonder how you get on.

I had a 05 e class on 15" wheels and now have a 07 e class sport on 18" as standard , the difference is massive only for spoiling the look of mine I would be tempted to put 15" on it . Although one was a avantgarde the other a sport so this might be adding to the discomfort along with the 18" wheels.

Are you sure the 17"s aren't already an upgrade? The OE avantgarde spec is 16"s.

I believe your right as the spec sheet says at the time of an upgrade, 8jx17 WAS an upgrade. I was just thinking of treating it to some 18's.............as I like to treat it every now and again lol

18 would be nice but you will reduce comfort and heavier on running gear and tyre noise

Fuel cost will go up also

It's a lot to give up for style but if you want them do post a few pictures their are a few nice wheels in 17 inch that look bigger trick of the eye and you get the best of both worlds

Agreed, HT.

I do know someone who put the staggered 18" 5-spoke CLS wheels on his S211. I have to admit they looked the dogs you-know-whats, and filled the arches very nicely.

But you will have to live with some sacrifices, as mentioned above. I would also expect the steering to be a little heavier too possibly, with the wider footprint.

What is important the looks or the ride

By 2007 only 4 16" wheels offered against 20 17" and 18"

this is what she has on at the moment, stuck on if changing them is going to upset it.
I just fancied a change of scenery, maybe a change in another area is better spent??
Bodykit maybe lol

I think (because of their 10 spoke design) that Sport wheels fill the arches best, but they are very hard to get secondhand - there was a guy who spent months trying to locate some.

My 19's came from ebay - £620 with tyres, though I've changed all the rubber.

Yes the sport wheels ARE hard to come by. But then why would you sell them, they are great looking alloys.
I will just have to keep an eye out on ebay and the likes for a nice looking set, but being very fussy means it'll probably cost me an arm and a leg!

You could always buy new - circa £2200, wheels only.

Because they are a pain to clean, the 5 Spoke AMG are lovely and easy to clean

Get a set that need a refurb or go aftermarket, so long as they are TUV approved there is no problem

Ideal, I LOVE cleaning, and as this is hardly used now, they won't be getting too dirty

Good idea, I do love those Brabus ones..........hmmmmmm want to try and make it look right, rather than looking like someone slung some cheap alloys on.

Not talking about cheap crap, talking about reps or something that looks MB but with a twist.

BRABUS are lovely wheels, the best way is to go to a wheel shop that will let you see he wheel on the car so you get a good idea of what it would look like. E-Bay is good for OEM so will be worh a look, also there is someone on here selling a set of OEM 18" Sport wheels

Very nice! I think that something from the AMG or Brabus stablea are def in order. I currently run 245 45 17 so a slightly lower profile is possible and dont see any need to go wider than the 245.
Was actually thinking of going 235 front and 245 or 255 on rear. Am in no rush so will wait for the right set at the right price before taking the plunge.
Have to say those 18's on the black 211 do look very nice indeed.
