I have a 2010 S212 E350 CDI BlueTEC. My engine management light recently lit amber. Around the same time, the transmission started getting a bit clunky/jerky.

I bought an OBDII reader to use with my phone. It reported the following:

A bit of Googling led me to believe that I needed to replace the manifold pressure sensor so I ordered this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01LF7Q64A/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Today I lifted the bonnet to attempt to fit it. On removing the plastic engine cover, I discovered that there appears to be an oil leak per the photos below. Is anyone able to advise me what the source of the leak is?

I'd hazard a guess that your pcv valve pipe has either dislodged from the batwing or the pipe has split. Orange end in pictures.

Pcv = positive crankcase ventilation .

Interesting - thanks @onefortheroad - is this something that I should be easily able to confirm as someone who can use basic tools but is certainly not a proper mechanic? Is there much involved in removing the bits above the PCV valve pipe?

2 torx screws in the air filter , unclip the filter and remove it. Be careful not to drop the screws . The bat wing should flex enough on that hinged part for you to be able to see if the pcv is connected or not, it just pushes into a hole , it's not fastened in tbh.

I'd remove both filters and the batwing , look to the red seal on the turbo, there's 1 big jubilee clip to loosen off . Unplug the mafs , Remove the lot and have a good look about and a clean up with some Gunk spray . The red turbo seal I'd replace also whilst it's in bits.

Great - thanks. I've only just realised that the big section across the middle is the thing that you are calling the batwing. I assumed that was the name for a style of connector on the end of the pipe or something. I'll have a look at it tomorrow. If I find that I can't get access without removing the batwing then is doing that a challenging task?

Try unclipping that side air filter and pull off the batwing pipe on that end , it may flex up enough to see if the pcv pipe is hanging out . Be careful putting the batwing back onto the air filter, there's a red seal on the end that can be jammed and twisted .

This video makes it look easy enough to remove, even for someone of my level of incompetence. Wish me luck...

Good luck. Hopefully it's your little red seal at fault. Lettuce know how you get on.

I started lifting bits off the top of my engine today. I believe I've a pretty severe case of black death. The first photo shows the amount of hardened material that I removed using a flat blade screwdriver as a scraper/chisel. The total volume of material is the equivalent of probably 3 tennis balls.

I spent about 90 minutes scraping/chiseling to remove the material and get down to the plugs/pipes/cables etc. hidden beneath.

I believe the source of the material is the middle of the 3 right-hand side cylinders but it's possible that the front cylinder has a similar issue.

I'd welcome advice on what to do at this point. Am I looking at a big bill to get this repaired? WhatsApp Image 2022-11-13 at 15.14.33.jpeg WhatsApp Image 2022-11-13 at 15.14.33 (1).jpeg WhatsApp Image 2022-11-13 at 15.14.35.jpeg WhatsApp Image 2022-11-13 at 15.14.34 (1).jpeg
