S320 01Y - Parking senors (driving me crazy)

Hi
Have an S320 01Y which last year (during warm weather) my front left Parking sensors would go off when in traffic. Seems the left side is "ultra" sensitive. Is it easy to replace the sensors in the bumber and if so how and what parts do I need? I guess the CPU is ok as the right side and rear are fine. As today we had temps of 18 deg, again sitting in traffic it started again :-(
Thanks in advance for any help.
Keith

Hi, the range of the sensor can be adjusted using star D, however if its only one giving a problem then it needs replacement or the wiring needs checking

The range of a sensor cannot be changed on Star D as eric says. they are all wired in parallel, so that information is wrong.

Individual sensors do fail and are easy to change. If the car has been painted on that corner at some time and they have been incorrectly painted that could cause this fault.

With the car facing the sun you could try shielding the sensors on that side one by one and you could find it, it needs a sheild about 2 feet from the sensors just to keep the sun off one sensor in turn

I will clarify what I posted. The range of all the sensors can be adjusted using Star Diagnostics, but if one is giving a problem it cannot be adjusted and will need replacing. I will add that we repaint sensors often (accident cars) with no problems.

There is an MB service paper for the correct way to paint the sensors.

Painted incorrectly can cause them to give false readings, its a listed fault.
Just because you have had no problem, why not do it right.

Are you going to start again eric on this thread, you should stay out of what you do not know.

I said in the answer that there is a MB paper on the problems caused through incorrect painting, nothing to do with the internet, Nissan or Mazda though interesting enough if they were painted wrong, they could get the same fault.

The reason why you have never heard of this is because you are not what you say you are, and this shows in almost everyone of your postings.

Thank you coolpot, you are correct it is all on data sheet AF54.65-P-2001A

Eric, rather than come back here and argue, pop into your local MB dealer and they will print you off a copy (free).

You altered your first answer after I pointed out your error, are you going to alter your second answer that is wrong, the range cannot be altered on Star D, if you have problems on the corner sensors, you fit a less sensitive one.

Please stop pretending to be a MB training center, thats impossible. OK I may be alone on the electrics on this forum, and many other members do not like conflict, you post wrong info, then I will correct it.

I am making a note of all of these threads to send to the owners of the site.

Thanks for info. I think it is one that has just failed.

Does anyone know where I can buy a sensor from as I guess my MB dealer would charge full RRP.
Cheers
Keith

Daft I know, but I've had parking sensors going off on their own in warm weather too. On investigation on both occasions, I've found bits of splattered fly on one of the sensors. Cleaned them off and it's been fine again.
Just a thought.

Hi all, interesting comment about the paint. I purchased my C Class in 2005 and then found a mercedes rear sensor kit including visual display. I had a dent guy out to do a couple of light scratches and he painted the sensors and the surrounds for me so they were body coloured, all I had to do was fit them. They seem to have been trouble free for the past two years.
Mercedes parking sensors come up quite alot on Ebay, not sure if they are generic or model specific though.
Paul.
