My 2000 S320 is sitting very low & wont lift at all, When attempting to drive it a warning flashes up on the dash about airmatic. Im told 40amp fuse & relay need checking before attempting the compressor but where are the fuse & relay located?

you should have a sheet or legend of fuse / relay locations.
mine is in the boot / toolkit

the relay is in the fuse box under the bonnet ,r/h inner wing ,about a foot from the windscreen.

the relays do conk out, but mine stayed in the on position.
new one was £25 ish

Sounds like a new compessor and relay is in order.

Don't let the car sit low for more than 24hrs as this can damage the struts beyond repair.

I have seen two blow before for this reason.

When the new compressor is fitted the level will need setting up with a star.

.

When the new compressor is fitted the level will need setting up with a star.

I'd had conflicting advice regarding this.
Stealer told me that once the compressor has been changed, level needs to be reset on STAR. Takes a long time hence the quote of about 800 pounds (inc parts).

My indy says that nothing is required with STAR (he does have STAR), just swap over and car should sort the levelling out itself. One hour job all in.

My copy of WIS doesn't mention anything about level setting adjustment after changing the compressor.
But I find it hard to believe that some intervention on level checking via STAR is not required.

BlackC55, what do you do when you change these pumps? Are the pumps for the 211 and 220 the same? 220 are alot heavier so is the pump not bigger for these cars?

Thanks,
shr.

The pumps are different.

I set up the ride height on the Star. It takes 5mins and is worthwhile.

I do have a second hand pump here if you want it.

I've just had the vehicle ride height calibrated by stealer because my indy diagnosed the rear senors were out of range. (Indy couldn't calibrate cos they don't have the inclinometers).

When you say you set up the ride height on Star, do you actually recalibrate (i.e with inclinometer) after fitting the pump, or do you adjust the overall level of the car?

(Basically, is ride height setup the same as ride height calibration?)
