Hi everyone,

I have just got my car back, S320, 1999, W220, from some warranty work where a new wing has been fitted due to rust. I have been out in today and turned the air con on. All I get is a whiff of something fusty and I cannot hear the motor running. I get the same problem either on heat or cool and despite turning the fan full on to max I still cannot hear the fan or feel the benefits of the heat or the cold. Despite this if I put the front windscreen demister on I can feel the heat.

I have turned it off for now in the hope that any of you wonderful people can offer advice and help?

Cheers folks, looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Steve

My advice is - take it back to the garage. It was working before they started mucking about so they could at least diagnose it sufficiently to prove it's not their fault.
To change the wing, they may have had to strip other things down. MB hide components in all sorts of places including the wing, (aircon components are down there) so its possible they simply haven't reconnected something.

I might check the fuse but it would be going back if that wasn't it.

Fault found to be blower motor?

:( Thanks for the info bud, I have done what you said and they were good enough to assume the fault was thiers so they replaced the regualtor. This was to no avail so the took it Merc Main Dealer, they have had a look at it and have diagnosed a siezed blower motor. They have also said that it is just unfortunate that it occured whilst in the hand of the body repairers. They qoute me £272+vat and an hours labour to fit it. Don't have that kind of money at moment so I am going to shop around and maybe do the job myself.

Any ideas of a good place for the blower motor?

Unusual for them to fail and I would have thought that with a bit of tinkering and some wd40 it could be revived. Anyway, failing that, the main merc breakers are Mercman in Southampton and Dronsfields (google them or do a search - someone will no doubt have posted a number at some point).

DIY repair first

Hi again, when I get the car back I will attempt to get at the blower motor myself. (Any instruction greatfully recieved) I will attempt to get the thing going again with the old WD40 like you say. If that fails I will get in touch with those you recommend.

I also intend to speak to the technician at Merc tomorrow to get from him exactly what he found and why the motor has siezed in the first place?

Many thanks for your help,

Steve
