thumbnail_20201227_140054.jpg Hi,
Father had 'consumer' battery fitted by AA as unable to open car. He has had trouble ever since, leave the car unused for 24 hrs and cannot open car. Would someone be kind enough to advise if this is correct battery located in boot? Checked and alternator is def' providing a charge to it.
TIA
Jim

no its a small one.... stock fills the whole gap to that right side boot trim and is 26kg !!! ring merc grangmouth for a good price and quick delivery

it may not even be an AGM battery.... that type tolerates the abuse far better. I expect the guy fitted what he had to get you out of a situation. Even so I 'd be surprised it can't cope short term.... so you may have other issues.

there's another battery in the front.... the one you have MIGHT do in that position its far smaller in the front

that looks right to me .
there's another ( starter ) battery of similar size under the bonnet left hand side just under the wind screen .
there's a charge point for that consumer battery under a plastic cover adjacent to the starter battery .

I replaced with genuine merc on my old 2007 and 2009 cars

Something like this rated at 95AH - best to ring Tanya or MB dealer to confirm it’s not an AGM battery (start/stop) which I don’t think it will be

looks like a choice

010 STARTER BATTERY
IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT 12V/92AH 001 A 00 198 282 08 - $361.49

010 STARTER BATTERY
IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT 12V/60AH 001 A 00 554 113 01 - $253.61

500 STARTER BATTERY
IM LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT 12V/60AH 001 A 00 554 113 01 - $253.61

500 BATTERY
IM LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT 12V/95AH 001 A 00 554 110 01 - $304.39

500 BATTERY
IM LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT 12V/70 AH 001 A 00 454 186 01 - $178.99

my father’s e280cdi with the same engine (3ltr tractor) admittedly only gets one battery, has the big 95 amp one in the boot (which is the same std STOP START battery in the back of my S class - which has lots of toys and option 910) on both my fathers and mine, the stop start nomenclature is not because either have stop start, but because the battery gets lots of abuse with so many electrical systems and a 400 amp fuse on the alternator !!! If u have lots to toys (self closing doors etc.) I'd expect it to have the big battery

a clue could be if it came with high output alternator option 910

assuming the battery is good and charging .
Is there a drain on it when the engine is off and particularly when it should be asleep ?

water ingress caused problems on an old w220 . Blocked sunroof drain and water got at electrics under the carpet

Thank you for all replies and advice, I'm surprised even if the battery is wrong I would have thought it would be powerful enough to operate the central locking.
