Hi,

I have just bought a s320 CDI 2001, great car .

I have just looked in the engine bay and noticed a gauge with the words 75 % and 100% with a knurled plastic knob. This is to the left of the engine when viewed from the front. Thie gauge was showing all red and when I turned the knob slightly the red moved to show some white at the 100 % end. The knob only turns one way so I am concerned what I have done?

Does anyone know what this is and more importantly what i have done?

Thanks in advance

Tim

Dont worry, it is there for checking the air flow through the air filter, you applie a vacum to it and it is supposed to tell you how blocked the air filter is. I have never used it, is so easy to remove the filter and inspect that i dont use it.

By turning it you reset it, if you are worried just unclip the filter housing top and inspect the filter visually.

Thanks Ellsy, you say air filter is accessible by clips, to get inside plastic enclosure where this gauge is needs a star type socket( not got this...bah )

Can you confirm where air filter is please

thx

Sounds like a 220 Malcolm. The air filter is inside the box on the left of engine as you look at it from the front.

Hi,

I have checked the link to the diagram showing the air cleaner but it does not seem to match what I see with my car.
I have attached some photos of the gauge and engine ,area

I cannot see any clips anywhere to access the air cleaner.

Thats the same as mine, no clips, you need to undo those 3 torx bolts along the top edge to get to the filter.

loss of coolant

thanks for your help on air cleaner.

I now have a more important problem as of this morning ....

I am losing engine coolant at about a pint a minute, makes car undriveable as coolant low comes on in 3 minutes running.

coolant is running off transmission cover plate at bottom of car and around bell housing area looks wet. I see no obvious leaks points, where should I be looking? what is likely cause?

thanks again
