Hi all,

When I tried to start the car in the morning, it started for a couple of seconds and then came up with an ESP fault and cut out. After this it wouldn't start at all.

Jump starting off another car worked every time with no ESP fault.

Having browsed the forums, I bought a new battery - but same fault.
Any idea guys,

(The mechanic I take the car to said that it may be the injectors, but I can't see this if it is starting after a jump start - any thoughts?)

Thanks in advance

Was the new battery checked to see if it was fully charged? only grabbing at straws but a thought.

Yes, and I measured the voltage after a few attempts to start, and it was at 12.5v.

The mechanic told me about the associated problems when the battery runs low, and it showed all the symptoms of being this.

Also, once the car has started (by a jump start), there is no problem in starting again until the nex morning.

The drainage current of the battery was checked, and found to be 0.04A, which seems acceptable.

Thanks,

Roy

The battery only runs flat after trying to start it a number of times.

A mechanic checked the charging, which was OK, and the leakage current was only 0.4A,which seems acceptable.

I was wondering if it could be the glow plugs, as connecting a battery across my own maintains the same voltage, but increases the current capability which the glow plugs would probably need.

A shot in the dark I know, but the MB dealership want 120 GBP just to connect it to their diagnostic system (apparently, they have more features than the garage systems).

Thanks,

Roy
