s320 gearshift

I have a 1999 320 (the old type) and the flexible concertina type shroud around the gear shift has broken and sprung back out of site. The replacement part I get get easily enough but does anybody know how to get at it? There does not appear to be an obvious way of removing the hardwood shroud.

The wodden surrond is normally clipped in, with a bit of persuasion it can be lifeted out.

Thanks Bobcat. I will give it a try but to do it I will need to remove the radio to get a bit of purchase.

Not sure where the ashtray is on yours but if it is in front of the gear lever if you open it you should be able to lever up the front of the surround.
