Hi All,

A newbie question, I would like to check the fluid in the Power Steering as there is a slight noise when I turn the wheel.

BUT where is the reservoir to do this ? Does it have a filter, can I change this, should I use MB steering fluid or another brand ?

Thanks

Chris

Brill, got it, checked it.

Now have another question (!!) sorry if its already been asked on the forum

Small dipstick, with several marks (i ithink) 20 (min/max) and 80? (min/max).

Min is just about on the lower min (20) just about where round lower end of the dip stick is. Where should it be ? (i'm guessing this is about ambient temp but not sure).

If I do need to add fluid, what should I add. Is it 'normal PAS' fluid or should I wait for MB to open tomorrow and get some from them ?

Any tips for filling it up, on a range rover I had previously you were meant to turn the wheel from lock to lock after filling it to the right level, check it again and fill to the right level.

Worried about doing this when its making its current noise as it might put more strain on the pump in my opinion.

As usual thanks for any help.... Brilliant response.

Check the level when the car has just had a run, it should then be just off the highest mark, the 20-80 are temp marks and the level should be on the marks according to the temp of the oil!

Just checked after a drive to the local town and the level hasn't moved at all  !

So I will definitely get and add some tomorrow.

Anyone have any idea how much I will need ?

Get a 1 litre bottle and then I would add 0.1 litres at a time. (There should be markings down the side of the bottle).

I did this recently on my Mum's W211 (was making a really unhealthy noise, like a very high pitched screaching sound that sounded like something very very serious.)
Anyway, I added 0.1 litres (of ATM fluid on a W211) and the sound completely disappreard.

So I would add a small amount and test it, prior to adding any more. I wouldn't just add the whole bottle in one go.
