I got my 1997 S320L about 6 months ago,I discovered that I can only lock or unlock my car when the key fob is very near to the car (about 1-1.5 meter) anywhere further than that it wont work.

Also when I depress the key fob when locking the door accordingly, the red light underneath the rear view mirror suppose to blink and when unlocking the Green light suppose to blink, now I only get the Green light when unlocking but could not get the REd one blinks when locking.

Is there any way I can make
A) the key fob to be more sensitive from a slight further distance?

B) how to change the reb light bulb or to check why the Red one is not blinking?

Many thanks

does the red bulb in the door handle blink?
As far as range is concerned, new battery in the remote and clean the windows and mirror, but generally the IR system only works from around the car pointing in through the windows. Range isn't great with IR, especially in bright sunlight.

Ive found with my 95 CL the fob will only work if its next to the drivers glass, my mate has the same CL exactly and yet he can unlock from a huge distance.

Recently I changed my rearview mirror and I find that I am now able to use the remote to lock and unlock the door in a further distance compare to the old rearview mirror. I am not familiar with electronic stuffs but I think that the bumps and the terrible uneven roads' conditions may contribute to the solder parts early retirement in the electronic stuffs inside the car and a whole branch of strange things can be happened because of that !

I had a problem with the glass in mine, it came free of the back plate so as I was driving the glass would rattle, visually all I could see was a blurr.
I pulled it all apart and glued it back on its been there for two years so I assume its ok.
I suppose the joints could get dry and need some fettling that might make a difference.
