S400 CDI 2001

Hello,

Im in the middle of a business to buy a Mercedes s400 CDI 2001.

Is there anything that i Need to play attention?
The car have a issue, that on a cold start he starts ok, but if i turn it off and try to start again he doesnt start and i Need to wait till drops the temperature.

I'm not really good with engines, so I have no idea what your temperature issue might be.

But from the four of these I have owned in times gone by, I know a couple of common problems:

- Air suspension compressor, is it strong?
- Rust! - These rust really badly, so get a good look underneath.

Other than that, I believe they are like any other luxury barge, and things may go wrong but it could really be anything. The engines are pretty strong though, and I put 260,000 miles on one of mine; with it still driving perfectly when I sold it.

I'd love an old V8 diesel here in the UK, but alas, we never got the W220 V8 diesel

Hot start issue is likely an injector leaking off pressure or a failing high pressure pump. Both not the cheapest to fix so negotiate the price based on this.

I did wonder if that was a typo, but there really was a 4.0 V8 Diesel then.

Would have perhaps given the Audi A8 4.0 and 4.2 V8 Diesels a run for their money!

MB thought "nah nobody in the UK (or Australia, etc) Will want them"

All the floorpans for Mercs favour LHD conifiguration. So the left hand footwells etc are bigger. No space for the V8 diesel without new floor pan.
