My 2000 model S500 yesterday developed fault on central locking. Does not operate either from key or switch in car. Door closing aid off as well. Unable to get in boot either as lock seized up and boot release not working either. Any ideas what is wrong? Seems vacuum pump must be inoperative to me but knowing Mercedes could be a hundred other things as well!

Any idea where vacuum pump is? I have read elsewhere it is possible to pull pipe off it and blow in it to open boot. Really need to get in boot as battery seems to be on last legs.

I'll admit that I don't know about your car, but on several others the vacuum pump is umder the rear seat squab.

Drivers side seat rear, there maybe some foam covering it, expensive to buy from MB but cheap enough off ebay.

Smart + others :)
In n/s/r of boot, behind side carpet, £404 + vat from mercs, fitted one yesterday. But check your fuses in front of rear seat o/s.
