S500 Warning Triangle Problem

Hi all,
Just wondered if anyone knows what the Red warning triangle is in the middle of the speedo with a pic of the car in it on a S Class 500. (I think it's a 52 or 54 reg so not W140 shape).
Hope this makes some sense.

Have you looked in the Handbook?

I THINK it shows that the Traction Control is OFF - when lit.

Hi Malcolm, I must admit my car does not have the distronic option. The info is from my manual, however it may only apply to my older model.

Is distronic the radar guided cruise control? if so it is fitted with that.
the car belongs to the Director of the company that i work for and he said that the light has just come on today, unfortunately he has left the manuals in his house abroad so can't check it up. on his car the speedo has two warning triangles fitted, one amber ! and the other red with a car pictured from behind. looks like a trip to the MB dealer for him anyway.

Then eGuru could be correct on the S class, could the speed limiter be in one and the distronic in the other, have you tried pushing the end of the stalk

As far as i remember the yellow triangle with the exclamation mark was always used for the traction control on the older W140, but this newer car has two triangles, one with the exclamation and one red with a pic of a car.

It's exactly as eGuru says. The red triangle is for Distronic. My S Class (W220) has the light but as I don't have the feature installed, the red light goes out a few seconds after starting the car.
If your bosses car has Distronic (I believe there's a switch and a thumb wheel control next to the gear lever) and the light is staying on, then yes suggests a fault with the system.

Could try playing with the Distronic controls to see if it can be reset, but I reckon it's a STAR job.

Pushing the CC stalk for variable speed limiter is an entirely different function.

Let us know what the stealers say.

The adjuster on the console is for range, and there are no other controls. Even with it disengaged but active in the display, then 2 white or red cars appear in the box when you meet them.

Hi All,
Just an update,
my boss got the W220 back from the garage yesturday after a reset and of course the usual host of small things that were ok, but Merc replaced anyway (wipers,lights etc.)
So we will see if this has cured the problem in the coming days.
