My mate's away for a few weeks hols and asked me to look after his S500. Magic methinks. His parting message was to make sure I started the car up every 2 days or the whole thing collapses. Didn't know what he meant.

Went down this morning to start the car and nothing. Sure there are lots of lights alarm working etc but nothing from the engine when I turned the key.

I phoned him this monring and he tells me it happens all the time and he doesn't know why. He also says the suspension and everything drops when he does get it started again.

I think it is a 2000 model S500.

Any advice?

There is obviously a current drain somwhere.

This needs to be checked.

The airsuspension should not go down after a couple of days. There is a leak somewhere. (good luck in finding it)

How old is the battery? Is it ok? Is the alternator charging?

Not sure if the battery is old or not. It has been a recurring problem so I guess he has tried a few things.

Can the car just be restarted with jump leads or is this some3thing I should leave to the mechanic

As the whole point of you starting the car every other day was to apparently avoid this very problem it's probably best to wait 'till your mate returns and let him sort it...............jump starting the car could create a whole new set of problems as some MB's dont like jump starts due to power surges occasionally 'toasting' ecu's.

Could it be related to the gear Lever / Selector, -- Try movingit out of PARK and Back in again a couple of times, or try starting the car with the Selector in 'N' Neutral, it may work.

Are you saying that the engine does not turn over when the key is turned

Try resetting the imobaliser / alarm while you sit in the drivers seat. I have a customers S500 in at the moment and have to arm and disarm the alarm before it will start.
